Metal collage

This wonderful collage, 3-D metal by a Morro Bay artist was sent early by my brother, who must have known that I needed a lift while this remodel goes on. There was an available nail and I hung it very hear where it will probably be hung in the new kitchen.
It really is a wonderful piece though hard to photograph in such a dark space.
Thank you Craig!
Hummmmm, I wonder what Margot will contribute?

One of Three

While the kitchen itself seems to be on hold, I can't help but find things for it. While having a fabulous day in the Sonoma wine country in and near Geyserville, I found this stool and it's siblings in a small gallery. Just so comfortable with a great back and wonderful footrest...I bought all three.
The cabinets are now scheduled to be installed on September 5th, just a few days too late for the stainless steel fellow to make his template, so the beat will go on thru September.

Another Delay!!!

So this what people talk about when you say you are going to remodel...Today I pressed my cabinet maker for a date, and found out that there were two problems!
First...as he indicated last week, there was a delay...it was with equiptment that came and didn't work correctly.
Second...He had trouble getting the Lyputus...but it has finally been located and is hopefully on the way to arrive at the end of this week. So now it will be the week of the 25th that hopefully will be the install date.
A good thing too, as I am tied up at least one day that week, and three the next. The good news is that the House of Stainless will be in Clearlake over Labor Day and if everything is in they will be able to take measurements.
I know I know...if I didn't want stainless steel counters, things would move more quickly and if there is a hang up on that point, I might just change my mind and so with total quartz...but as of now, I have faith...
It will be huge stew that I cook first...first on the stovetop, and a second one in the oven...or vice versa, since I think the over will be in way first!
I have entertained myself this afternoon with reading the food sections of the Chron and the PD, as well as a little retail therapy. I ain't done in the latter realm yet either!

Fasta Pasta

Kitchen update:
Looks like the cabinets won't be going in until the week of the 18th.

In the meantime, my microwave cooking continues, this week with the arrival of the Fasta Pasta contraption.
I used it with Orecchiette which took 15 minutes in the microwave. The texture was fine, and the pesto was good, but I neglected to prepare the potatoes and stringbeans in my hurry to try the FP, so there was a lack for me.
Anyway, in a pinch I guess it would do. That was one cup dry pasta, without the potatoes and stringbeans, it made just enough for a hearty serving for me along with a very good salad.
I do think that any microwaveable dish would work for the pasta, esp. if you aren't making spaghetti or any long pasta. As you can see, in this microwave, the container barely fits.
One nifty part is the drain in the lid which you put on after cooking...I was able to pour off the water in seconds...right into a big basin so I didn't have to traipse across the living room with a hot hot container.

Stuart with a Charlotte free Calendar

Stuart, showing off the new paint above the backsplash area to be...and happily holding a calendar showing he won't have to come back over here until August 14th for a regular work day.
I hope by then the cabinets will be in and perhaps the floor started...but in the meantime, a hiatus is not unwelcome.

Painting all done

Finally, all the "initial" work on the kitchen, the prep work, the tear out, the repairs, the sheetrock, taping and now the paint...all done.
All the tools associated, and oh my god there were a lot of them are gone, and now there is a big beautiful light colored space.
And NO workers for a few days.
Good thing too as with this cold/allergies, I am not feeling so hot...happy, but sick. Boo hoo.

Stuart & the primer

Working on a Saturday...me in the yard and Stuart painting away. By far the best division of labor! If you check the flickr site you will see I also got some good photos while working...frog and butterfly.
It is great to have the wall of plastic down and the painting started. I can't wait until the space is just the space...no tools, no drop cloths, no lights, no cords, no ladders. Just two weeks of blank space...errr, maybe more than that.
I also have been discovering another neat aspect of remodeling...invitations out for delicious home cooked meals...with the leftovers even sent on home with me!!!
Thanks to Jim and Martha and Scott and Ellen. A bonus in each case was the excellent company which took my mind off the day to day stuff!
