Holding Pattern

.This weekend I am in Hanford, escaping from the Kitchen...sort of a be careful what you wish for weekend. It is the family art show at the Kings County Art Center in Hanford, and the best part is I have high speed access so I can play with some items on the blog and flickr.
As for the Kitchen...the Stainless Steel counter tops are supposed to go in next week, somewhere between the 1-3 of October. Then the end will be in site...I can have the plumbing done and that will be a real relief.

Boy, am I excited...it just fit in it's box.

Close up of grout and hand mold tiles

You will have to go to flickr to see the full effect and it is great. I am very happy with this floor...and it feels so good to walk on...an added benefit. But I will stay off it until tomorrow when it is sealed!
Then even the dogs will finally be allowed back in the house...speaking of whom...they are barking at the creek and it is way past their bed time, so I will retrieve them.

Yikes...by the time I got to it on line two people had already viewed it. It is a bit startling isn't it? I think you have to see it, and remember that there is another cabinet that isn't in this photo that will be across the front...right to left. TESSELATIONS live on!

The caption says it all! And now rather than bug Lou anymore I am off to the BlueGrass festival. I left the CD changer fully loaded with Gillian Welch for Lou.

Checking out the new tile

I am excited to see the new tile again...it has been a long time since I chose and ordered it. Last night I was a bit worried about how much I would like the three color combo, but Jan was right...I am really going to like it. The tile is beautiful, but since it is hand molded, it is irregular both in color and to a certain degree, size, so Lou has his work cut out for him. He will do all the main floor today with the thinset, and then tomorrow do the tedious cutting etc. for the toe kicks and up against the remaining spaces.
I will get to have fun at the Blue Grass Festival!

Getting closer!!!

The Microwave
The Microwave,
originally uploaded by Rexfree_99.
OH boy...the ovens are in! The top oven is microwave and convection and the bottom is convection...it will convert my normal entries to the new mode...which is a good thing. It still looks like I might have to learn to cook all over again. Glad I am grilling tonight...that I know how to do!
The fit is perfect and they look wonderful with the new cabinets. I am impressed anew with Mike's Cabinets and of course Lakeside Appliance and Harvey.
Another bit of good news is that the tile is at long last in Santa Rosa...now to talk to Lou about picking it all up and setting a schedule for the install.
I fear that the poor old dogs are going to have to be out of the house for a few days...maybe they can stay downstairs where it is cooler anyway.

Not just a ROCK

First Rex into the kitchen...I opened it there and now am considering where to put the collection of Rex images...it is growing. Would love to have them on the wall in the kitchen or near the kitchen...
Actually kitchen update: I have my dining room back and love the lack of clutter now that I can put away at least what was out there. New Rule:
Everytime I come up the stairs, I will carry one kitchen item and put it away...soon will be done.

Lazy Susan...or Charlotte

This is the most extravagant part of the kitchen...one on either side of the sink...more space then I ever will need except for those ever proliferating plastic items and rarely used cassarole and weird cookie cutters.
Welcome Home , ya all!!!!!

Say hi to my french's mustard...love that stuff. THese are really cool...one draw back is that the two lower shelves are a little low so I have to put the taller stuff up high even though it might not be the most used stuff. And unlike my dual roll outs in the old kitchen I can't pull out just one at a time, but it is still great. I have a method already in place...will see how it works...ethnic filing I call it. Italian, Mexican, Asian and Other!!!

Margot is the only person I know who has these nifty little items...I will have to buy new garbage bags and recycle them for the garbage and recycle bins...I love it that I can roll them away.

Above the oven...lots more space

Of course it won't be in this location...it will usually be adjacent to the end of the counter on the east wall, but it is great o have it available out here.

Ah...it was wonderful to be able to make my salad with out craning my neck to see the tv and the latest news.
I know not everyone is as addicted to the news as I am, but oh this was great.
And the salad was wonderful as well...only drawback, since I am farther out than I would be if the tile were down, the down draft from the ceiling fan caused my parmesan to try to migrate as I grated it onto the bread.
But I found that leaning far far forward mitigated that issue.

Here is another view, this time of the west wall...the first big opening is for the refridge, and the second with the drawers under is for the oven...so glad they can put it in on Wednesday.
Wait until they are through I will photograph some of the details! Like the corner lazy susans...oh my!

Finally Cabinets!!!

New Cabinets on the East Wall
New Cabinets on the East Wall,

At last, the cabinets are in and I am just demented with joy. Good thing that I am back home after a couple of errands so I can't bug too many people except here.
As I write, the House of Stainless folks are downstairs making their template for the countertop.
It hadn't occurred to me before now, but I can put all my stuff away as soon as they are done (or at least begin the job) as no one will need to get into my cabinets, except under the sink and under the cooktop. The cooktop will be in temp position so I don't have to see the big hole. The oven will be put in on Wednesday.
Sadly, the refrigerator won't go in until the tile floor is in...it looks too big for the spot, but I am not worrying about that right now. I am a terrible estimater.
The tile is the sad part of the tale...somehow, in someway, the Seneca tile people neglected to ship the tile...It should have arrived mid-August at the latest, and after finally doing more checking, delayed by the holiday, it turns out it hadn't even been shipped. It was shipped yesterday finally, and hopefully will arrive in Santa Rosa next week, late in the week I am guessing.
I haven't been able to let Lou the tile man know as I can't contact him right now...hummmm, that is a bit worrying I suppose, but since I have given up worrying, I won't.
There are more install photos on the flickr site.
