Trying to dry the closet and bathroom

Just a brief round up in the world of failed or non working appliances in the last week!
First on Monday evening, I realized the washer and dryer had no power...that got fixed on Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon, my kerosene Moniter Heater suddenly went on the blink...literally: E 14, E 14 and so on. Repair man came out and fixed it all by 5:30 pm and then left. About an hour later: beep, E 14, beep E14...called the answering service left a message and got out the space heater.
Thursday morning, unit was repaired. Only good thing so far, I didn't have to pay for any of the above.
This afternoon, Sunday, as I am going down the enclosed stairs, I hear the sound of running water...Oh my god. Ran into the downstairs bathroom which was closest to me, and found the hot water heater gushing water from the relief valve area. Turned off the water and started mopping. Current status: Turned off the power, have mopped up all the water, and am running heater to dry everything out. If I had been gone even for a few hours, the whole downstairs could have been a disaster area. As it was, only one of my rolling duffels got wet and part of the bathroom floor took a real soaking. It must have only been on for a matter of minutes as I had just brought the dogs inside and we would have heard it.
So now...here I am with only bottled water until I can call this in tomorrow morning. Hopefully my favorite appliance store carries hot water heaters and installs them. I really don't feel like dealing with plumbers etc.. On the other hand, the heater might be ok, but why would it do that?
I know it is at least six and a half years old and energy efficient etc.. don't these things last about 20 years? My Morgan Valley propane heater lasted a really long time and think about that water and the sediment. They couldn't even drain it. Gross.
Trying to think of what else might be in jeopardy...the septic pumps? Now that would really be gross.
At least I got the cooking done, and the dishes washed and I do have some big jugs of drinking water. But I will miss my long, long Sunday night shower, that is for sure.
